The Carol and Its Context in Twentieth-Century England.
- Authors
Vogt, Sean
- Abstract
The article looks at the context of Christmas carols in England in the twentieth century. It notes that the hymn became popular due to the congregation that has a participating role in the worship service. It further states that carol singing was heightened with the service of Nine Lessons and Carols and that the use of the harp as an accompanying instrument was considered radical. Moreover, it mentions that the simplicity of carols is indicated in the choice of voices and the way they are set.
