- Title
An Early Assessment of the South Dakota Oral History Project.
- Authors
WARD, STEPHEN R.
- Abstract
This article presents an evaluation of the oral history project started in 1970 and funded by the State of South Dakota. The project was requested by State Historian, Dayton Canaday, and Professor Joseph Cash of the University of South Dakota to collect reminiscent accounts of the early settlement in South Dakota from older white residents. South Dakota has a large number of older citizens evidenced by the fact that the State Historical Society had given out pioneer certificates to over 1800 citizens born in the Dakota Territory prior to November 2, 1889.
