- Abstract
The article examines several evaluations and criticism concerning the role Sir John A. Macdonald, a Canadian lawyer and former Prime Minister, played in the founding of the nation of Canada and argues that he was one of the most important statesmen of his time. According to the article, Macdonald is regarded as one of the fathers of the Canadian Confederation. Topics of discussion include his being accused of being an alcoholic, political corruption, racism, and sexism, his role in developing a relationship between French-speaking and English-speaking Canada, his leadership in the creation of the Canadian Confederation, and his success in the construction of a Canadian transcontinental railroad.
