- Authors
WHITNEY, KRISTOFFER
- Abstract
The article explores the impact that the suburban boom following World War II had on the development of the lawn aesthetic and growth of the lawncare industry in the United States. The author explores how the lawn functioned as a large technological system involving agricultural chemicals and experimentation. It examines issues that arose as a result of suburban lawn maintenance including the contribution of urban runoff to eutrophication and a realization of the inadequacy of environmental regulations in controlling nonpoint sources of water pollution.
