- Abstract
The article discusses the creation of national epic poems in the late 18th century in light of the work "Essay on Epic Poetry" by William Hayley, which called for an epic poem to be written in honor of the British Empire. The article presents an account of several epic national poems following the outbreak of the French Revolution. The author suggests that the French Revolution impacted political ideologies in Great Britain, including militarism, patriotism, and nationalism.
