- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the framing of social problems such as obesity within national contexts. A case example is given surveying the different ways in which obesity is depicted as a public health issue in France and in the United States. The authors suggest that a nation's economic-political standing in the international community can influence its ability to frame social problems. Instances where the French media can report on obesity within an anti-American frame are given and analyzed in turn, highlighting their flexibility.
