- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the events and politics surrounding labor relations in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. Focus is given to the social movement perspective of repression and counter-movement organization as seen in the policy debates of the period. The author provides an event history analysis of the right-to-work laws taken up in multiple U.S. states after the New Deal. The ways in which the political powers of the states aligned with employers or labor unions are particularly highlighted. Conclusions are given expanding the implications of the historical case on social movements and labor relations in general.
