- Title
Facial Expressions.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the explanation pertaining to the difficulty encountered by people from East Asia in distinguishing facial expressions compared to the people from Europe. Rachael E. Jack, a researcher at the University of Glasgow, cites that Westerners focus on the eyes and the mouth in equal measure while Easterners favor the eyes. This observation was used by Roberto Caldara, a researcher at the University of Glasgow, to show the complexity of human communication of emotion which suggests that emotion cannot be used to convey in cross-cultural situations. Researchers conducted a study on cultural differences by recording the eye movements of Western Caucasian and East Asian to support the observation of Jack.
