- Authors
Hobbs, Brianne N.; Draper, Jason
- Abstract
This article explores the issue of burnout among faculty members in optometric education, specifically focusing on gender differences. The study reveals that women in optometry are more likely to experience burnout and feel that their well-being is not prioritized. They are also more likely to consider leaving their institutions due to issues such as work-life balance, compensation, and advancement opportunities. The article suggests that optometric schools should prioritize faculty wellness and address the specific needs of women faculty members to prevent burnout and attrition. However, the study acknowledges the need for further research on intersectionality and gender inclusivity in understanding burnout in optometric education. The text also highlights the broader issue of burnout among women in various medical fields and emphasizes the importance of addressing gender disparities and creating supportive environments for women in academic medicine.
