- Abstract
Determines the association between the interleukin-4 (IL-4) receptor &alpha variant Q576R and Th1/Th2 imbalance in connective tissue disease. Identification of IL-4 as a pleiotrophic cytokine that plays a role in the growth, differentiation, and survival of B and T lymphocytes; Likelihood of individuals with IL-4Rα Q576R allele to have a higher risk of developing several Th2-related connective tissue diseases; Representation of Q576 R mutation of IL-4R&alpha as an important genetic factor that predisposes individuals to systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis and Sjogren's syndrome by perturbing the balance between Th1 and Th2.
