- Abstract
A wireless body area network (WBAN) is a radio-frequency-based wireless communication technology that consists of a number of different sensor and actuator nodes interconnected with a body gateway. Considering the limited resources of power and size in WBAN applications, simple and noise-robust synchronization algorithms are required. In this paper, a robust algorithm for finding an estimate of the start of the preamble of an incoming packet is proposed in a WBAN system. In order to device the packet detection scheme, the use of cross-correlation based power-detection threshold is proposed, in which the detection threshold is scaled by the instantaneous received noise power. We show via simulations that the proposed algorithm is capable of robustly detect start of a packet against the variation of signal-to-noise ratio, providing a performance advantage over the conventional algorithm.
