- Title
Reproductive biology: Sperm protein finds its mate.
- Authors
Wassarman, Paul M.
- Abstract
The article reports on the identification of folate-receptor family members on the egg's plasma membrane, a sperm-specific protein responsible for sperm–egg adhesion during fertilization. Topics discussed include interaction of the sperm protein Izumo and folate-receptor Juno, local clustering of Juno on the egg's membrane, by another membrane-spanning protein such as Cd9, and identification of proteins that interact with Izumo1–Juno complexes and stimulate sperm–egg fusion.
