- Abstract
This article examines the attributes and motivational factors of academically successful Mexican-American male and female students in their final semester for the baccalaureate degree. The questionnaire used in the study included a rating scale of 1 to 7 to indicate the degree of importance that the student placed on each of the five personal attributes and each of the five motivational factors selected for the study. A pilot study was conducted with 10 students prior to the data collection process to identify features for improving the questionnaire. The statistical data show very high percentage ratings by both male and female students on all five variables pertaining to personal attributes. The preponderance of the group percentage ratings are found between levels 5 and 7 of the scale. The review of literature and findings in the study also lend credence to the premise that Mexican-American students, who exhibit the attributes and motivational factors discussed in this study, certainly have the potential to pursue and complete university studies for the baccalaureate degree.
