- Title
BENIN – NIGER: Oil Spat.
- Abstract
Benin has blocked oil exports from Niger through a pipeline that connects the two countries. This action is in response to Niger's continued closure of its border with Benin, despite the lifting of sanctions by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The pipeline, developed by a consortium of Chinese companies, was expected to carry 90,000 barrels of oil per day to an export terminal in Benin. Beninese President Patrice Talon has demanded that Niger collaborate and reopen their side of the border if they want Benin to allow ships to load Nigerien crude exports at its Seme port.
