- Title
ROADS AND RAILWAYS.
- Abstract
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa opened the Newlyn PX Terminal and the Tetra Pak Manufacturing plant in Durban as part of the country's investment drive. The Newlyn multi-modal rail terminal, which pledged R2 billion, has now been completed with a total investment of R2.6 billion. The terminal is considered a flagship development that enhances logistics capacity and facilitates the migration of cargo from road to rail. In Tanzania, the first batch of electric locomotives for the newly built standard gauge railway (SGR) arrived, which will reduce travel time from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro. The SGR project, expected to be completed by 2025, is being built in five phases and has received fresh funding from the World Bank. Kenya and France have finalized an agreement to fund the upgrading of the Nairobi Commuter Railway, and Nigeria has secured a $1.3 billion loan for the Kano-Katsina-Jibiya-Maradi railway project.
