- Abstract
Experimental filmmakers Nathaniel Dorsky and Jerome Hiler, who have been partners for almost sixty years, will have their films showcased at MoMA and Anthology Film Archives in New York. The screenings will feature their silent films from the 1960s to their more recent works. A new publication, "Illuminated Hours: The Early Cinema of Nathaniel Dorsky and Jerome Hiler," will be released alongside the screenings. In an interview, Dorsky and Hiler discuss their experiences in the New York art and music scenes, their move to San Francisco, and their work in Hollywood. They also talk about their use of color in their films and their connection to Buddhism, with Hiler describing color as powerful and seductive, and Dorsky emphasizing its importance in conveying meaning and emotion. The filmmakers also touch on the role of plants and flowers in their work and reflect on the experience of making art as mature artists.
