- Abstract
This study examines the effect of teacher communication on freshman high school students towards doing their homework assignments and their level of engagement and attitudes in the classroom. It also investigates students' and parents' attitudes toward school work. The researcher randomly selected four Algebra 1 classes; two assigned to the control group and two in the experimental group. The Students were handed a monitoring sheet to give to their parents that was filled out by their teacher. This sheet provided the parents with information on homework, conduct, and class participation. The study shows improvement of students' confidence in their abilities of doing math work and their parents' altitudes toward their success. This research shows that students' conduct and engagement in the classroom improved significantly, and there was a decline in the number of student referrals to the principal's office. Moreover, those in the experimental group had significantly higher scores on homework.
