- Title
Meeting the Challenges of Data Collection in Outcome Systems.
- Authors
Mason, Matthew M.
- Abstract
The growing popularity of outcome measurement has required child and family service agencies to establish new methods of managing data collection and using the data. Often, these efforts emerge as outcome management systems. However, such systems are not yet in common use nor are they standardized, resulting in systems that are fraught with difficulties and inefficiencies. This article describes the development of a provider-based outcome measurement system, describing core components and processes, what to measure, who should be involved in the development and measurement process, and what data collection technologies can be used or adopted. Problems and challenges in developing model outcome measurement services will be presented, along with lessons learned as a result of practical implementation. Samples will be provided to demonstrate how to present and use various types of data.
