- Title
CONSTRAINED FREQUENCIES: THE WIRE AND THE LIMITS OF LISTENING.
- Authors
Brown, Adrienne
- Abstract
A criticism is presented of the television series "The Wire" in which the author explores the hip-hop musical accompaniment arranged by musical supervisor Blake Leyh, focusing on the way musical access charts characters' potential for self-reflexivity, enunciation, and historical imaginings. Topics include listening practices of the series' characters, the relation between the show's music and Baltimore, Maryland's music production, and the anti-emancipatory nature of music.
