- Abstract
To verify the relationship between perceived stress and sociodemographic variables, self-perception and the presence of health problems in a group of elderly people who attend a Community Living Center located in the city of São Paulo. Out of a total of 68 attendees of the service, 64 took part in the research. Stress was assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale. Statistical analysis was performed using the Analysis of Variance, Student's T-test or Mann-Whitney U tests, in addition to Pearson's correlation coefficient. Multiple Linear Regression was performed to identify which variables influence the highest score on the stress scale. Among the variables studied, depression, living together and chronic pain were related to the increase in perceived stress, with a strong correlation between depression and stress. Understanding the variables related to perceived stress and its influence on the vulnerability of the elderly population may allow the creation of strategies to improve the quality of life of this age group.
