- Abstract
TUM sports campus with large canopy in wood In the course of the new construction of the campus in the Olympic Park in Munich (CiO: Departement of Sports and Health Sciences of the TUM as well as University Sports Center), a two‐storey large‐scale construction in wood will be built with the following key figures: 22,000 m2roof area, 11,000 m2ceiling and wall surfaces, 5,200 m3wood in use. Of particular importance: halls for 14 sports fields, integration of an athletic track, 300 offices, lots of seminar and lecture rooms, library, workshops and test laboratory as well as a canopy with an almost 19 m long cantilever and a total canopy‐area of around 3,000m2. The overall building has to meet the highest design and functional requirements and standards (1st prize in the Architecture Competition 2015). While the hall roofs are derived from conventional glue laminated timber constructions and, as such, represent an extremely economical combination of functionality and aesthetics in the structure, the unique feature of the entire construction is the canopy with an almost 19 m long cantilever and a construction height of only 1.60 m: a construction made of glued hollow boxes, factory‐made in 40 large elements. An extremely slim and fascinating construction, which is explained in overview and details.
