- Abstract
The book "The Christianization of Scandinavia in the Viking Era. Religious Change in Adam of Bremen's Historical Work" by Lukas G. Grzybowski deals with the Christianization of Scandinavia in the Viking Age. The author examines the perception and interpretation of the Christianization in the chronicle of Adam of Bremen. He uses a "history of ideas" and analyzes ideas and concepts that influenced the source. The book also discusses the state before the Christianization, the beginning and progress of the process. It emphasizes the eschatological component in Adam's work and the socio-economic and cultural changes that the Christianization brought about. However, the author criticizes that certain aspects such as the categories of mission and martyrdom are not sufficiently addressed and that a comparison with other chronicles is missing.
