- Abstract
The book "Princely Funerals in Europe, 1400–1700. Commemoration, Diplomacy, and Political Propaganda" examines princely funerals at European courts over a period of 300 years. The focus is on the ceremonial elements and their changes over time. The anthology includes contributions on funerals in France, Italy, England, Spain, Denmark, and German-speaking courts. Protestant funerals are also addressed in order to explore the previously neglected area of mourning and burial ceremonies of Protestant dynasties. The book offers diverse inspiration for comparative studies of different religious denominations and provides perspectives on questions regarding funeral cultures throughout Europe.
