- Abstract
The growth of the internet in recent years has made its detachment from everyday life almost impossible. For many, the internet is a medium capable of generating well-being and improving life quality; however, for others, it can be a source of anguish and suffering, becoming a potential cause of psychological damage. The problematic use of the internet resulted in several developments, reaching people of varying ages, especially children and teenagers who enter this scenario through the use of virtual electronic games. The problem proposed in this study aims to investigate what influences internet gaming addiction has in the school life of teenagers. In order to carry out this research, we used as a method a systematic review of the scientific research on this topic, through the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. The searches were conducted using keywords in order to meet the objectives of the study. Thus, 484 papers were identified, of which only 11 matched the criteria and objectives. As a result, it was found that internet gaming disorder causes damage to the school life of teenagers, such as poor performance, school failure and low grades. Besides, it interferes with teenagers' interpersonal relationships so that they show social withdrawal behaviors and neglect of daily activities. Considering the aspects mentioned above, we believe that a greater attention from health professionals, school and family is necessary, both in preventing and treating this new disorder, in order to contribute to a healthy development of teenagers who are in daily contact with electronic and virtual media.
