- Title
MegaBee: New Food for America's Beleaguered Honey Bees.
- Authors
Wood, Marcia
- Abstract
The article reports on the new product called "MegaBee: The Tuscon Diet," which is a whitish powder rich in protein, developed for beekeepers to ensure that their bees will not run out of food. The powder can be mixed with sugar syrup for a source of energy for the bees. The cooperative research program worked with Gordon I. Wardell of the Tuscon based S.A.F.E. (Sensible Alternatives for the Environment) R&D, LLC. Finding the correct combination of amino acids resulted in the MegaBee formula. The protein based formula helps bees produce more brood, which is the next generation of bees. Hardworking honey bees can be more proficient pollinators of almonds, apples, blueberries, cherries and other foods we enjoy.
