- Abstract
The pressures faced by wool dyers in the last 20 years have varied. Some have been shared with dyers in other segments of the textile industry, such as increased energy costs and the need to meet environmental regulations. Some of the pressures have been peculiar to wool; for example, development of machine washable material. Others have derived from the need for wool dyers to adopt technology developed originally for other fibers; i.e., high temperature dyeing and the increased use of package dyeing. This report reviews the changes in wool dyeing in response to these various pressures. The development of dyes, auxiliaries, machines and dyeing methods are covered.
