- Title
The Effect of Textile Finishes On Thermal Protection.
- Authors
Waldron, Earl T.
- Abstract
The protection against intense heat provided by a fabric is not solely dependent on the fabric's flammability. Other important factors are the degree of insulation provided by the fabric before it begins to burn and the heat content of the decomposition products produced by the fabric after it begins to burn. This paper discusses the effectiveness of several finishes on cotton and cotton/nylon blends in helping to provide protection from both thermal radiation and flame.
