- Abstract
Preconfigured Cycle (P-Cycle ) is the most effective technique in terms of restoration speed and efficiency for protection and restoration of Wavelength-Division Multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. It is observed that a planned technique for protection and restoration of WDM optical networks is essential to exploit advantages of All Optical Networks (AONs). P-Cycle resilience techniques are of great importance in optical networks because they retain ringlike switching characteristics and are as efficient as mesh networks. In this paper, an efficient restoration technique was proposed considering various fault scenarios using P-Cycle configurations. Performance metrics such as average end-to-end delay, carried load and average jitter were analyzed for considered configurations. Using the results obtained, the most effective P-Cycle out of various fault restoring P-Cycle configurations is selected based on the resilience time consumed.
