- Abstract
The use of herbs during pregnancy is increasing as more women decide "natural" remedies for the uncomfortable symptoms of pregnancy are safer than and as effective as pharmaceuticals. The decision to use herbal therapy will best include knowledge of the potential negative effects of the herbs as well as the possible benefits. The patient looks to health care providers and childbirth educators for this knowledge. This article discusses the most commonly used herbs and offers a DO NOT USE list. Key questions are suggested which should be asked of each patient during the prenatal assessment of the childbearing family.
