- Abstract
A critique is presented of early 17th century English plays such as "The Widow's Tears" by George Chapman, "The Maid's Tragedy" by Francis Beaumont, and "The Two Merry Milkmaids" attributed to John Cumber, focusing on the plays' depiction of masques. The social aspects of masques in British society, class distinctions, and voyeurism in drama are also discussed.
