- Abstract
In February 2023, after months of political discussion, new developments in the reproductive policy landscape were passed in the Spanish Parliament. The legislative reforms, initiated in particular by the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero of Unidas Podemos, and supported by the current minority government coalition of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party and Unidas Podemos, are being discussed under the label of feminist domestic policy. Part of the package is a new health law that expands existing paid maternity leave and introduces a so-called 'menstrual leave'. The idea behind menstrual leave is that employed individuals with menstrual discomfort can take time off work with continued payment. The impact of menstrual leave in Spain remains to be seen, but the country could take a leading role in European menstrual policy.
