- Abstract
The article deals with the conservative turn in women's politics in China under Xi Jinping. Under Mao Zedong, women in China achieved a higher social status, but with the reform policy starting in 1978, the state withdrew from society and there were setbacks for women. Under Xi Jinping, a conservative turn has taken place, which propagates the family as a central element and ignores or suppresses misogyny. However, there is also a new feminist activism that draws attention to discrimination and sexual violence. Despite censorship, the MeToo movement in China has uncovered many cases of sexual abuse by prominent perpetrators and increased public attention to the problem. However, the state does not decisively take the side of the victims and sometimes even intervenes in favor of the perpetrators. The political system in China is permeated with misogyny and tolerates the violation of women's rights and dignity.
