Peter McGuffin, a renowned researcher in the fields of behavioral and psychiatric genetics, passed away at the age of 74. He was known for his pioneering work in genetic approaches to studying clinical and behavioral phenotypes, utilizing family and twin designs as well as molecular genetic studies. McGuffin made significant contributions to gene discovery for major psychiatric disorders and played a crucial role in bringing genetics groups together to boost statistical power. He was also a respected clinician and mentor, inspiring many early career researchers in psychiatric genetics. McGuffin published over 500 scientific papers, received numerous accolades and awards, and had diverse talents and interests outside of academia.
