- Abstract
The article criticizes the movie "The Purple Rose of Cairo," directed by Woody Allen. The movie has the same relation to romantic film comedy as radical post-modern writings such as "Lost in the Funhouse," directed by John Barth. Allen's movie is considered a metafilm by Professor Robert Scholes. He also succeeded in creating romantic film comedy under cultural circumstances. Furthermore, the autobiographical parallels to the situation of Allen during the stage of his career as director are apparent in his film that includes "Annie Hall," "Interiors" and "Manhattan."
