- Abstract
A total of 198 rice cultivars (or lines) heading and flowering under extremely high temperature in 2013 were used to explore the effect of extremely high temperature on the seed-setting rates of different rices (Oryza sativa L. ). The results showed that there were the effects of continuous high temperature on rice seed-setting rates, and the significant differences among rice cultivars (or lines). The seed-setting rates varied significantly in indica F1 hybrids derived from different sterile and restorer lines, indicating the effect of the combination of parents on the heat tolerance of F1. Correlation analysis suggested that the seed-setting rates of indica restorer lines and japonica cultivars under high temperature were negatively related to the daily highest temperature, but the correlation was not significant, however, the seed setting rate of indica F1 hybrid was significantly positively correlated with that of its restorer line. Four indica restorer lines (Ninghuiguang- kangzhan,Shuhui527, Chenhui3203 and Xianyin-8 ) and four japonica cultivars ( Wuyinjinghui ( B2 ) , Nanjing44//W3660/Nanjing44 ( B11) , Nanjing44//W3660/Nanjing44( B12) and Wuyun2330/JD6011 ( B22) ) were preliminarily selected as heat tolerant cultivars (or lines) whose seed setting rates approached the normal level (90 %).
