- Abstract
This article discusses the political conditions faced by the state and federal governments of Australia in 2008. The installation of the government of prime minister Kevin Rudd from the Australian Labor Party is described. A financial crisis in Australia is related to concerns about a budget deficit and efforts to reform taxation. Rudd's coordination of an apology to Aboriginal Australians for their mistreatment by the government is characterized. A summit organized to develop Labor Party policy is assessed. Chronicles of state government activities across Australia are also presented.
