- Abstract
An oriental rug is not just a work of art skillfully achieved to recreate sight but also a representation of a spiritual message that comes to us through nomadic tribes or inhabitants of small villages in those enormous regions extending from Minor Asia to the Far East, from the Caucasus to the Persian Gulf. Oriental rugs turned into furniture. They were used to cover floors or protect entrances to nomadic stores, sheltering them from the environment. They decorated mosques and palaces. They were and are currently used as prayer rugs. The hand-knotting technique, characteristic of oriental rugs, represented a huge event and extended throughout Asia. Each region adopted a unique knitting way, always achieving an amazing level of perfection. With the years, rugs acquired a certain value in the market and became commerce goods.
