- Abstract
The article describes the life and achievements of Swiss General Guillaume Henri Dufour. Dufour played a crucial role in the formation of modern Switzerland in the 19th century. He was not only a successful general, but also an engineer, cartographer, and politician. Dufour significantly contributed to uniting Switzerland and creating a common Swiss consciousness. He was responsible for the first modern topographic survey of the country and was also involved in the founding of the Red Cross.
