- Abstract
The article focuses on issues surrounding the abolition of mandatory retirement in the U.S with the institution of tenure of higher education in the U.S. Topics discussed include the 1986 Amendments to the U.S Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) that ensured that retirement decisions would be based on individual performance, and the economic impact of the 2008 financial crisis on higher education as well as on retirement portfolios and rising healthcare cost.
