- Title
Testing and Treatment After Non-Occupational Exposures To STDs and HIV.
- Authors
Hardy, Erica J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the new recommendations for the prophylaxis, testing, and treatment of adult patients after non-occupational exposures to sexually transmitted disease (STD) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It states that enough time may not have elapsed for a STD test to be positive depending on the time from exposure to presentation for medical care. It says that empiric treatment rather than testing is recommended by most experts. It mentions the regimens recommended for empiric treatment including one for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomonas.
