- Abstract
The aim of the study was to examine associations between seniors' perceived health status, engagement with leisure activities, and components of subjective well-being: life satisfaction, positive and negative affect. The study sample consisted of 74 participants (59 women and 15 men) from the ages of 65 to 89 years (M = 74.60, SD = 6.64). The following measures were used: Engagement in Leisure Activities Questionnaire (Fernández-Mayoralas et al., 2015), Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener et al., 1985), and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (Watson et al., 1988), in order to determine the cognitive and affective dimensions of subjective well-being. Results showed a significant positive correlation between seniors' engagement in different leisure activities (passive, cultural or social), perceived health status and positive affect. Regression analysis showed that engagement in leisure activities and perceived better health status explained 29% of the positive affect variance (R2 = 0.29, F (6.67) = 4.49, p < 0.001). Due to the sample size and uneven gender distribution the interpretation of results should be made cautiously.
