- Title
Optogenetics: controlling cell function with light.
- Authors
Pastrana, Erika
- Abstract
The article presents a description of the basic steps that are required to control cellular function with optogenetics. Four steps are mentioned which includes chemical modification of light-activated proteins to become photosensitive, the coding of genes for the light-sensitive proteins and delivered to the target cells, and definition of temporal and spatial control of illumination light. It notes that in optogenetics, illumination is employed to alter cellular behavior.
