- Abstract
The article addresses the issue of students leaving their designated area with a demonstration of the use of differential reinforcement. The developmental disabilities that are seen in children and youth who elope are mentioned and the long-term consequences of elopement for students are discussed. The function-based strategies used by majority of research teams are also described. Recommendations for teachers dealing with this challenging problem are presented as well.
