An interview with historian and biographer Olivier Zunz is presented. Topics discussed include the major points in his biography of author Alexis de Tocqueville that he would mention initially, Tocqueville's beliefs on democracy, some examples of what Tocqueville found in the U.S. that might have altered his ideas about how democracy works or should work, and how he balanced his political and intellectual commitments.
