- Title
Here and There: Reflections on Postcolonial Art and Society.
- Authors
Jaeggi, Urs
- Abstract
The article looks at various intersections among art, globalization, and decolonization. The author notes shifts in European attitudes toward non-Western art, citing the 1947 work "Imaginary Museum" by French author and cultural theorist André Malraux as a prescient turn toward a global and essential rather than Eurocentric and historical view of art. Other topics include the influence of black jazz music on the author's own intellectual development and trends in the performing arts, and thinkers including philosopher Maurice Blanchot, art historian Catherine David, and poet Octavio Paz are cited.
