PROGRAM OF SPECIALIZATION IN ELEMENTARY SCIENCE.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents information about a special program formulated to train elementary teachers in the field of elementary science. The program is instituted by the New York State College for Teachers at Buffalo to improve existing general elementary curriculum. This specialization has been set up after the submission of a report by the committee of the New York Association of Elementary School Principals. They reported that virtually all schools have an elementary science program of one sort or another. But, they are not satisfied with these programs. They said that the biggest challenge to better science is "lack of teacher education in Science." The solution of the problem lies in providing training to all general elementary teachers. So, this special program includes elementary teachers with a special interest and competence in science, rather than subject-matter specialists who happen to teach in the elementary school.
