- Title
A Study in Maximizing Speed through Ving Tsun Concepts.
- Authors
Webb, Jeff
- Abstract
The ability to apply martial art techniques at a high rate of speed is essential to overall fighting effectiveness. In Ving Tsun gongfu, physical speed is not only required for defense: it is also essential in generating the flexible striking force used in this system. Yet the process of improving one's overall speed by relying solely on physical considerations has strict limitations. By looking beyond the physical to the conceptual, Ving Tsun has evolved a unique set of theories that reveal proper timing to be a significant multiplier. While Ving Tsun is revered for its exceptionally fast hand techniques and rapid footwork, we will discover that orthodox Ving Tsun theory actually emphasizes relative speed over actual, physical speed.
