- Title
OKANO ISAO'S IMPACT ON JUDO SINCE THE LAUSANNE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
- Authors
Finch, David
- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of Okano Isao, 1964 Olympic middleweight champion in judo, on the sports of judo in Japan after the Lausanne World Judo Championships in 1973. It states that Isao has turned the Japanese judo team into a force that has firmly reversed the advancing European judo movement. According to the article, Isao is aware that some liberal Western views could benefit world judo. However, Isao has offended the Kodokan by appearing on the front cover of the French "Judo Magazine" with Anton Geesink wearing red and blue judo outfits in 1975.
