- Abstract
The article discusses the need for organizations to indulge in corporate social responsibility (CSR) through institutional theory which provides it with a multilevel theoretical explanation including actions within and outside an organization. It mentions the significant role played by institutional investors in monitoring social behaviour of organizations by opting out of organizations performing low on CSR. It states that another source of pressure for firms to engage in CSR is labour unions.
