- Title
Operation Venezuela: Some Political Reflections on Anonymous.
- Authors
Potter, Garry
- Abstract
In "Operation Venezuela," Anonymous launched a series of cyber-attacks upon the Venezuelan government in solidarity with the street protests in Caracas and elsewhere in the country. It is argued that Anonymous is a hitherto unique form of collective political actor of potentially great service to the global struggle for a better world; though it is also one which has some very serious weaknesses. The weaknesses derive in part from its very nature as an organization, from that which is also its strength. Operation Venezuela was a result of the weaknesses. This article provides an ontological analysis of Anonymous as a political grouping, as well as describing how and why Operation Venezuela came about.
